Overview:

Children and their families frequently seek medical care to address dermatologic complaints. Skin conditions, both acute and chronic, can be disabling, negatively impacting a child’s quality of life and occasionally be a clue to an underlying, undiagnosed disorder. The field of pediatric dermatology is a growing subspecialty dedicated to understanding these conditions. Each year, advances are made within our field providing a better understanding of both rare and common skin, hair and nail disorders. Also, the list of novel therapies in pediatric dermatology is exponentially growing. This half-day session is intended for the general practitioner who sees children with dermatologic conditions including general pediatricians, family practitioners, and urgent care and emergency medicine physicians. With dedicated and interactive lectures, we will focus on how to recognize, diagnose and treat common childhood dermatologic issues with a specific focus on recent advances in the field that influence care.

Educational Objectives

After participating in this activity, clinicians should be able to:

  1. Identify the indications for food aallergy testing in children with atopic dermatitis
  2. Identify FDA approved systemic therapies for pediatric atopic dermatitis and hidradenitis supportiva and how specialists decide when to start them
  3. Identify COVID associated dermatosis and clinical presentations concerning for multi system inflammatory syndrome
