Overview

MSK’s Department of Pathology 47th Alumni Meeting will feature interesting case presentations aimed at engaging our attendees in illuminating discussions relating to the identification and diagnosis of disease. Additionally, attendees will have a better biological understanding of rare cancer types. This course is intended for MSK Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine alumni only and is available both in-person and virtually.

The Fred W. Stewart Award The program this year will incorporate the Fred W. Stewart Award of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, which honors a pathologist each year who has made outstanding contributions to advancing our knowledge of human cancer. The award emphasizes the clinical significance of those contributions, particularly in diagnosis and patient care. It reflects the traditions and values brought to the Department of Pathology by Dr. Stewart, first as an Associate of Dr. James Ewing, and then as Chairman of the Department, for a period extending more than 30 years.

This year’s Fred W. Stewart awardee is Dr. Christopher Paul Crum, Division Chief of Women’s and Perinatal Pathology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Crum has studied almost every aspect of Gynecological Pathology throughout his career, but he is most well-known for his foundational work in understanding the biology of HPV-associated cervical squamous intraepithelial lesions/ cancer, and more recently his groundbreaking work that revolutionized our understanding of “ovarian” cancer. As this year’s program honors Dr. Crum, members of our Gynecologic Pathology team will also present lectures to cover other timely aspects of gynecologic pathology
