Request for Case Submissions
When you register, you will have an opportunity to submit a case for discussion during the course. In order to prepare your submission, we ask that you provide a BRIEF summary of your case and include key lab results. Please ensure that all identifiable PHI has been removed. Cases should have an educational purpose. The course faculty will not be able to provide a detailed/complex consult review during the course and they will try to get through as many cases as possible. Submission deadline: September 13, 2018.
Objectives- Understand the current standard of care for use of the direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). What is their safety and efficacy profiles?
- Understand the evolving role of coagulation testing in diagnosing and managing coagulation disorders. This includes the effect of the DOACs on routine coagulation tests, and what is the role for testing for levels of the new generation of anticoagulants.
- How can Interventional Radiology be best utilized for management of thrombosis. When is IVC filter appropriate? What is the growing role of thrombolysis and venous stent placement.
- How is hemolytic anemia associated with an increased risk of thrombosis?
- The association of thrombosis with cancer has been recognized for over 150 years. What is the current understanding of pathophysiology and management?
- Understand mechanisms by which mutations within cancer cells activates the coagulation system.
