OverviewThis is the sixth annual Southern California Kidney Symposium with the theme “Paradigm-Shifting Approaches in Kidney Transplantation.” Invited faculty from USC and several other North American academic institutions will present in a hybrid format, either in person or virtually through an online platform, before an audience of clinical and research faculty and trainees. New clinical and research findings will be presented on topics in several broad areas: novel kidney replacement options, health policy and economics of kidney transplantation and cutting-edge clinical trends in kidney transplantation.
ObjectivesBy the end of the course, participants will be able to:- Discuss the state-of-the-art progress in different experimental approaches to replacing kidney function for patients with kidney disease and assess the strengths of each approach.
- Illustrate the current policy environment for kidney transplantation and challenges for providing optimal care.
- Outline the management strategies for how best to allocate kidney transplant resources.
- Identify the uses, indications and limitations of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to kidney transplant induction and rejection.
- Explain the role of new biomarker approaches in the management of kidney transplant patients.
