Overview:
Welcome to VENOUS2023, the 35th Annual Meeting of the American Venous Forum. On behalf of the AVF Board of Directors I would like to thank Program Chairman Mike Sadek and the entire Program Committee for their tireless dedication in producing an exciting and innovative program. We are excited to be in San Antonio, a beautiful city with great history and culture and look forward to 4 days featuring the best in venous and lymphatic research, interactive discussion of key issues facing our field, time to interact and network with peers, and also a bit of time for relaxation and fun.
The theme of this year’s meeting is: ONE WORLD, MANY VOICES – Our Future is Together. The many voices are clinical, scientific, diverse; they cross specialty and provider types, and they are from all over the world, and our future is together right here in Texas. The program committee received an outstanding collection of abstracts, with more than 30% being international. This was one of the most competitive years to date, requiring innovation in program planning, along with an increased focus on the outstanding cohort of poster presentations. The sessions will be theme-based (i.e., wound, lymphedema, DEI, deep venous, superficial venous, VTE, etc.), and they will exhibit a novel structure blending different kinds of scientific evidence with expert opinion, with the goal to engage the audience at all levels and to encourage participation. The format for each session will be as follows:– Start with the Basics (The Science Program, developed by Dr. Diaz and Dr. Lurie)– Abstract Presentations (The latest peer-reviewed data)– Conclude with the Practical (“How I do It? / What would you do?” Practical discussions from the experts, developed by Dr. Elias and Dr. Stoughton)In alignment with this year’s meeting theme, we are excited that our Strandness lecture will be delivered by Dr. Donna Mendes, the current vice chair of surgery education at Lennox Hill Hospital and a trailblazer in the surgical world. We look forward to her presentation with great anticipation. We will offer a hybrid model with both in-person and virtual options for attendance. We welcome all, but hope that you will join us in person as we celebrate the excellent research, clinical expertise, and collegiality that are hallmarks of the AVF Annual Meeting. Welcome to San Antonio!
