Overview:
The 2nd Annual Sports Medicine Symposium: The Golf and Soccer Athlete is a one-day symposium on current best practices and innovations in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions used for recreational to elite athletes throughout the life span. This course will include a review of the current literature and will highlight an interdisciplinary approach to the latest cutting-edge management strategies with a focus on specialized populations including the golfer and the soccer athlete. A combination of didactic presentations, case studies, and panel discussions will be offered from leading experts in the field. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about evidence-based sports-specific examinations, diagnostic musculoskeletal imaging, enhance their knowledge of injection therapy techniques, and acquire the latest return-to-play and performance enhancement strategies including blood flow restriction therapy and video analysis techniques.
Educational Objectives
After participating in this activity, clinicians should be able to:
- Describe treatment algorithms to diagnose, manage and refer orthopedic pathologies and sports injuries. Physical therapists and athletic trainers will be able to identify and address functional implications of musculoskeletal injuries.
- Identify and address common soccer and golf injuries
- identify and treat common musculoskeletal injuries in both athletes and the occasional weekend warrior and be able to collaborate with all disciplines on the care team
- Identify and treat acute ACL injuries in the pediatric/adolescent/adult athlete
- Recognize emergency musculoskeletal injuries and triage and/or manage the plan of care from the sideline
- Describe the biomechanics of the golf swing
- Describe psychological techniques to improve sports performance
- Develop appropriate injury management strategy integrating both clinical examination findings with video analysis
- Recall effective evidence-based blood flow restriction therapy parameters for the injured athlete
