Advances in Robotic Colorectal and Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery Hosted by MSK & MD Anderson Cancer Center

The symposium will include live and recorded demonstrations of surgical techniques, detailed step-by-step analysis of surgical procedures, and presentations by experts on the latest advances in the use of robotic technology for minimally invasive surgical treatment of colorectal cancer.

This symposium is intended for colon and rectal surgeons, hepatopancreatobiliary surgeons, general surgeons, surgical oncologists, fellows, residents, PAs, NPs, RNs, and anyone interested in learning about robotic surgery.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the requirements for a successful advanced robotic program.
  • Become familiar with different approaches to minimally invasive transabdominal and transrectal colorectal procedures.
  • Become familiar with advanced hepatobiliary surgical techniques.
  • Review the principles of complete mesenteric excision in colorectal cancer.

Friday-Saturday, November 8-9

Regional Therapy for Advanced and Metastatic Colorectal and Appendiceal Cancers

International thought leaders will present the latest advances in regional and systemic treatment strategies for metastatic colorectal and appendiceal cancers. Research discoveries are opening up opportunities for greater personalization of treatment. A challenge facing oncology care teams and healthcare systems is the identification and timely integration of important treatment innovations developed at specialty centers into day-to-day clinical practice in the community setting, closer to where patients live. A central goal of this CME course is to provide busy specialists (oncologists, surgeons, interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists) with clinically relevant, cutting-edge knowledge that will help them translate those innovations into best practices, as is being done at various member institutions of the MSK Cancer Alliance.

The second day of the conference will follow a case-based format using real-life clinical scenarios. The moderator of each multidisciplinary panel of international experts will incorporate audience responses in examining key decision points and guiding targeted commentary on presentations by the panelists.

This symposium will help medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, colorectal/hepatopancreatobiliary/oncologic surgeons, gastroenterologists, pathologists, and other oncology care team members acquire clinically relevant, cutting-edge knowledge and translate it into best practices.

Learning Objectives

  • Update the learner on the progress made in the management of stage IV colorectal cancer.
  • Increase the learner’s ability to integrate the various aspects of metastatic colorectal cancer management including timing of surgery, selection of modality for locoregional control, and use of systemic and regional therapies for the metastatic disease.
  • Increase the learner’s familiarity with genomic predictors of response to therapy.
  • Bring participants up to date with the use of immunotherapy and targeted therapy for metastatic disease.
  • Review the results of the most important clinical trials in stage IV colorectal cancer.

Call for Abstracts

Participants are invited to submit an abstract for presentation at the poster session. Abstracts will be selected on the basis of scientific merit and presentation quality. Three travel grants will be awarded: Attendings’ Choice Award, Best Resident/Fellow Award and People’s Choice Award. To submit an abstract for this course, please click on the ‘Abstracts’ link above. A discounted rate is available for authors of accepted posters. Information will be included in your acceptance email. Submission Deadline Extended: October 31, 2019.
