Course Audience: pathologist

Overview:

Date & Location

Saturday, May 14, 2022, 7:30 AM – 3:00 PM, Aresty Conference Center – USC Health Sciences Campus, Los Angeles, CA

Overview

Gynecologic pathology is in a period of rapid change. New diagnoses, new methods, and new therapies are rapidly entering diagnostic practice. For example, companion diagnostics, such as Homologous Recombination Deficiency testing, immunotherapy, as well as Artificial Intelligence methods are changing our clinical practice. This course will feature an update on current topics in GYN pathology. First, tumors of the cervix will be discussed, including new terminology. Next, we will discuss new and difficult tumors of the vulva. Soft tissue and ovarian tumors, as well as the introduction of molecular subtyping in endometrial cancer will also be covered. The course will feature six lectures, with opportunities for questions and discussion, as well as presentation of illustrative and challenging cases.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the major morphologic pitfalls in diagnosing benign and malignant ovarian sex cord stromal tumors.
  2. Select and interpret immunostains and molecular tests for differential diagnosis.
  3. Identify which patients merit referral to genetic counseling to assess risk of a hereditary syndrome (DICER1, SMARCA4).
  4. Identify new morphologic variants of endometrial cancer, as well as pitfalls in pseudoneoplastic and pseudomalignant entities.
  5. Utilize selected immunohistochemical markers to arrive at the correct diagnosis.
  6. Understand the increasing role of molecular subtyping in endometrial carcinoma.
  7. Utilize a strategic approach to diagnosis of products of conception.
  8. Be familiar with critical diagnoses in products of conception, and their impact on patient management.
