Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) is a coenzyme found in all living cells. It serves both as a critical co-enzyme for enzymes that fuel oxidation-reduction reactions, carrying electrons from one reaction to another, and as a co-substrate for other enzymes such as the sirtuins and polymerases. Cellular NAD+ concentrations decrease during aging, and modulation of NAD+ usage and production can prolong both health and life span.

NAD

NAD+ plays a key role in mitochondrial function via supporting pyruvate dehydrogenase, tricarboxylic acid cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation chemistries. It is also a substrate for deacylases SIRT3, SIRT4, and SIRT5, which modify protein posttranslational modifications on lysine within the mitochondria. The biological significance of dynamic changes to mitochondrial NAD+ has been elucidated in much more detail due to increased research interest. This seminar discusses these findings and their application to improved patient care.

Emergency Medicine

Office medical emergencies can occur at any time, and require basic focused assessment and response for optimum outcome. These medical emergencies need to be quickly recognized and treated appropriately. This session of our seminar covers: Suggested training levels for office staff, building an emergency kit, maintaining a written emergency protocol book; nutrient reaction symptoms, fluid balance reactions, types of shock, anaphylaxis, AED devices and oxygen use.
