UChicago Medicine 3rd Annual Women in Digestive Diseases At the Forefront 2021
Format:13 videos + 1 pdf, size: 3.31 GB
Course Audience: gastroenterologist
Overview:
After three years of fellowship training in gastroenterology, knowledge and self-efficacy in women’s gastrointestinal (GI) and liver health issues remain inadequate in many fields as shown in both research and personal experience. Most of the standard of care approaches to common GI and liver illnesses are implemented across both genders, despite specific issues that are different in women. In gastroenterology, nearly 60% of patients are women, and many disorders are more common in women. Adequate knowledge in women’s GI health is critical to be an effective gastroenterologist. Additionally, women remain underrepresented among GI providers, even though female patients prefer to seek treatment from female gastroenterologists, creating a gap in care.
Women face unique challenges in the field of digestive diseases, both as patients and practitioners. This activity will address these challenges in an exciting and interactive forum. Topics include the symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of common gastrointestinal and liver diseases that afflict women more commonly and/or differently than men as well as strategic solutions to barriers women gastroenterologists and other women providers in gastroenterology face in their career development.
Target Audience
This activity is designed for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals interested in the treatment of women with gastrointestinal illnesses and the career development of women providers in the field of gastroenterology and medicine.
