UChicago Medicine 16th Annual Chicago Diabetes Day 2022

Format: 8 videos + 1 pdf, size: 2.61 GB

Course Audience: endocrinologist

Overview:

The goal of this activity is to provide practitioners and scientists with a comprehensive overview of the depth and breadth of clinical and scientific endocrinology. The curriculum will emphasize biochemistry, physiology, including cell and molecular biology as they relate to endocrinology. In addition, a critical review of the medical literature with an eye towards evidence-based medicine will be emphasized. We will have two keynote speakers on the topics of insulin costs, as well as the social determinants of health and diabetes. Clinical and scientific research in diabetes, endocrinology, and other internal medicine subspecialties related to complications of diabetes will be emphasized. This year a specific emphasis will be placed on the psychosocial, behavioral, and community impact of diabetes as discussed from various researchers’ viewpoints.

Target Audience

This activity is designed for physicians, scientists, nurse practitioners, nurses, diabetes educators, students, and other healthcare professionals dedicated to the scientific advances in diabetes diagnosis, management, and treatment.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Summarize unique social determinants of health pertaining to diabetes and specifically the psychosocial, behavioral, and community factors impacting diabetes outcomes in low-income populations;

  • Explain how machine-learning predictive modeling can provide insights on the impact of increasing cost-related medication non-adherence among Medicare diabetes patients;

  • Investigate sleep quality as it pertains to glucose metabolism, as well as glycemic variability in a real-life setting amongst adults with type 1 diabetes;

  • Describe the impact of biocompatible nanoparticle emulsions for the healing of chronic diabetic wound infections;

  • Discuss whether virtual diabetes support groups could address glycemic control and patient social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic;

  • Outline the patterns of cardiometabolic risk factors in gestational diabetes.
